Please can you explain the difference between your range of coffee cups?

We’ll try our best. Probably the best place to start is that our 16oz and 20oz are the exact same design just a different volume capacity. So to keep it simple we’ll just reference the 16oz but know it’s the exact same for the 20oz.

Starting with the 12oz it is slightly wider at the hips which is where it’s great for fitting under the majority of coffee machines (dimensions) whether at home, in the office or on the high street. It utilises a vacuum lid (i.e. a push on lid with no screw mechanism). A lot of thought went into the lid and is actually our second generation lid. In designing ours and reviewing other vacuum lids currently for sale the biggest element we tried to tackle is that the majority of vacuum lids are either permanently open (i.e. a mouth piece like a take away cup) or visually they look like the seal but in reality they have a slide function but don’t seal (for example if you turned the cup over contents would poor out). The reason why they’re not sealed is because hot contents create pressure that can force the lid off. To tackle this we positioned an air hole in the middle of our lid (which is great for straws too) which allows you to keep open if your contents are piping hot (i.e. above 85 degrees). By being in the middle it means tea or coffee doesn’t splash out of your cup whilst walking and when its cooled down after a couple of minutes (below 85 degrees) the middle portion can be closed to make it splash proof.

By having a push on lid it means there’s no screw indentations on the cup so it’s perfect for drinking without the lid on too i.e. if you’re making a cuppa to take into a meeting with you. The double walled nature of the cup means it will still maintain heat much better than an ordinary mug (even without the lid on).

The pro’s of the 12oz coffee cup is it’s ability to fit under most coffee machines, a versatile lid making it ideal if you like to drink with and without the lid, great heat retention and a beautiful design (we’re very biased). The things to be aware of is it has wide hips so it doesn’t fit all car cup holders (it’s a shame but all car manufacturers make different size cup holders so it’s impossible for us to tell you if it fits yours but 8.4cm is the widest part if you need to check) and a vacuum lid isn’t as strong as a screw lid in fighting against pressure.

The 16oz and 20oz design has a screw lid which has a push function in the middle of the lid which opens and closes to allow you to drink from any angle. This is perfect for travel as you only need the one hand. They’re also slightly slimmer (7.2cm) meaning they fit most cupholders too. The integrated handle means they’re comfortable to carry and you can also attach it to your bag or rucksack with a carabiner. If your someone that’s using your coffee cup more on the go then the 16 and 20oz is probably the one for you. Without their lids on their heights are 15.7cm and 20.3cm which is fine for most high street coffee machines but possibly too tall for home / office coffee machines. Our straw lids also fit the 16oz and 20oz making them very versatile.

What’s the difference between splashproof and leakproof? We classify the 12oz as splashproof which means that it has resistance to spills but as it’s a vacuum lid it is still susceptible to pressure issues mentioned previously. We therefore wouldn’t recommend traveling with your 12oz full in a bag (it also has a flip lid that could catch something in your bag and open it). If you commute and grab a coffee before going into work, or keep a mug at work, or like camping style holidays the 12oz is great for these types of uses. The 16oz and 20oz are what we would classify as leakproof. They have a screw lid so aren’t susceptible to pressure issues in the same way as the 12oz. The density of the lid means you need to let any contents return to the cup before closing (or take a sip once closed) as there can be a small amount of liquid held in the lid if you close it too quickly. Depending on your use case the 12oz and 16oz have different functions and we really hope this helped to show some of the differences between the two designs.

Are iglu's suitable for all types of drinks?

Absolutely! Unlike aluminium and plastic bottles, the stainless steel we use to produce our reusable cups is naturally uncoated and ideal for holding and maintaining all types of liquids. Aluminium is not suitable for contact with food and drink (especially hot and acid ones), as it is highly toxic. Our products are made of 100% high quality 18/8 stainless steel and are BPA free.

Can iglu's go in the microwave?

No. All iglu products are made of stainless steel and are not safe to put in the microwave.

Are iglu's dishwasher safe?

For all of our coloured cups, washing in the dishwasher is not recommended to avoid damaging or discolouring the paint. We recommend hand washing your iglu.

Your iglu Food Pot however is safe to put in the top shelf of your dishwasher.

How do I clean my iglu?

iglu products should be cleaned regularly—we recommend washing your iglu cups and bottles with warm water and soap after every use and drying and storing it with the top off.

iglu cups and bottles are NOT dishwasher safe!

Running an iglu through the dishwasher can cause paint to fade and the vacuum seal to become ineffective.

After washing your iglu, we recommend that you dry your beverage container by airing it out upside down and storing it with the lid off. This will help keep your Iglu looking and smelling fresh

How can I clean my lid?

iglu lids are dishwasher safe (top shelf) or can be hand washed.

Do iglu's fit car cup holders?
Annoyingly all car manufacturers make their cup holders different sizes. As a general guide our 350ml and 500ml bottles as well as our 16oz and 20oz coffee cups are cup holder friendly. Our 12oz coffee cup fits some larger cup holders (typically found in 4x4’s). The 1 litre bottle typically does not fit cup holders but may fit in your side door compartment.
Are iglu's leakproof?

We refer to our coffee cups as being splash proof or spill proof. They generally offer good protection from spills and can be turned upside without water escaping.

Our 12oz coffee cup has a vacuum lid which can be susceptible to pressure build up (see our helpful tips for further information).

Our 16oz and 20oz coffee cups, aswell as our 350ml and 500ml bottles have screw lids for added protection.

As a first step, we always recommend testing your iglu with cold water over your kitchen sink to make sure everything is working as it should for added peace of mind.

Are iglu's insulated?
Yes, all iglu's are vacuum insulated. Meaning they'll keep your favourites hot or cold for hours, whilst always being cool to the touch.
Can condensation form?
Our cups are double wall insulated, so the outside of its body will remain at room temperature, regardless of the temperature of its contents, whether it is icy or hot.
How are capacities measured?
To keep a consistent measurement across our range we measure all product capacities filled to the top without their lids on. As we offer different lids that fit the same products (such as our straw lid and push lid) they will have varying capacities once the lids are fitted. Due to the heating, moulding and cooling of steel there can be a circa plus or minus 3-5% difference in volume. For example a 1000ml capacity would have a range of 950ml to 1050ml.
Why Food Grade (304) Steel?
We don't spare any effort when it comes to high-quality materials and innovative design. Stainless steel is safer than plastic and aluminium because they can be filled with any type of beverage without the risk of chemical contamination. That's why we choose to rely on 18/8 stainless steel (AISI type 304) to make our high-quality, long-lasting, cups.
How can I dispose / recycle my iglu?
iglu's are reusable objects designed to accompany you for as long as possible. If, however, you decide to recycle them, you can take them to your local recycling centre.
Where are iglu products made?

Our products are thoughtfully designed in the United Kingdom and responsibly made in China.

To the best of our knowledge China is the leading authority of vacuum technology. Whilst other countries have the ability to make single walled steel products, it's the double walled/vacuum technology where China currently leads the way.

What is the warranty for iglu products?

iglu offers a one-year limited warranty on all products purchased from igluinc.com and authorized retailers with proof of purchase. This warranty covers any manufacturer defects, such as thermal performance issues.

If you run into any issues, please send us an email to hello@igluinc.com with proof of purchase, brief description of the issue and a video or pictures of your product which may help.

Quality and Certifications

We work closely with some of the largest and well-known manufacturers in their respective categories. Our bottles and coffee cups are manufactured at leading factories who continue to invest in the best people as well as the latest machinery and robotics.

Below we have listed out a number of the accreditations / certifications the factories we work with hold:

  • US-FDA
  • EUR-No 1935/2004
  • EUR-Reach
  • German-LFGB
  • ISO 9001

On top of this we have one of highest inspection standards in our sector with iglu products receiving two full inspections prior to shipping to our customers. This ensures we provide our customers with the experience and quality they were hoping for and considerably raises the bar found with other brands and manufacturers (i.e., it is typical for many brands to only inspect 10% of their goods prior to shipment).
